The only permanence is impermanence.

Welcome to a publication that embraces our human-animal natures. We are inextricably linked to our ever evolving and impermanent ecosystem, which is both terrifying and beautiful.

Much like the natural world, the Flora of Jenny Wren dons different mantles depending on the season. Issues can contain any of the following:

  • My daybook update, where I explore the daily actions that connect my family to our biome, our past, and our future.

  • Profiles of the flora and fauna that cohabitates the planet with us, written from my perspective as a biologist, botanist, herbalist, and dreamer.

  • Personal essays on topics ranging from nature and environmentalism, to food, daily living, degrowth, and the end of capitalism.

  • Recipes, medicinals, “dirt time” exercises, or devotionals (spiritual, perhaps, but never religious). Designed to reconnect the human to the natural world of which we are a part of, even as society strives to force us to be apart from it.

  • Book recommendations, links to my writing on the web or in print, or other tidbits of a wordy nature.

  • Occasional extra bits and bobs as inspiration or necessity dictates.

Flora is published bimonthly on the second and third Monday, with occasional bonus issues arriving as a pleasant surprise.

I write from the far northwest corner of Washington State with my wife, son, and furry companions. I’m a botanist, community herbalist, writer, dreamer, and doer. My best friends have roots, and I count all beings as dear relatives. Let’s explore this beautiful life we have, together.

Feel free to find me on Instagram, Medium, or at my personal website.

Ramble through the meadows and forests with me. We'll whisper to wild flowers, talk to trees, and meditate with the mosses. Or, we'll swap recipes and try to change the world, depending on the mood!
